PURPOSE

The purpose of this report is to provide the City Council with an opportunity to discuss each Council Member�s Fiscal Year (FY) 2006-2007 individual goals and to create a single list of consensus Council goals, if desired.

BACKGROUND & analysis

Prior to the start of each fiscal year, the City Council holds a Goal Setting Workshop.  The purpose of the workshop is to 1) review the Council�s expectations of staff; 2) review its expectations of how its members will work together; 3) appoint Council/Redevelopment Agency liaisons to Council/Board committees; and 4) give each Council Member an opportunity to list his or her top goals for the upcoming fiscal year. 

The Council held its annual Goal Setting Workshop for FY 2006-2007 on May 6, 2006.  The Council Members� individual goals as discussed at the workshop are included with this report as Attachment 1.  During the workshop, members of the Council requested that staff bring back the Council goals for further discussion so that the Council can work together to combine these individual goals into a consensus list. 

Staff initially provided an opportunity for the Council to discuss and combine its goals into a consensus list as part of the Work Program and Performance Indicator presentations on July 11, 2006.  At that time, the Council requested that staff bring back the Council�s goals for discussion at a later date.   This agenda item is intended allow the Council an additional opportunity to discuss creating a list of consensus goals.

RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the Council discuss the individual Council Members� goals for the upcoming fiscal year, and, if desired by the Council, to work together to combine these individual goals into a consensus list of Council goals.
