PURPOSE: To request City Council approval of contract documents and award of a construction contract for the 2000 Citywide Alley Reconstruction Project, Bid Schedule No. 1066. BACKGROUND: General funds were appropriated in the approved 1999-2000 Capital Improvement Program for pavement reconstruction of deteriorated streets, alleys, and sidewalks throughout the City. The scope of work for this project includes reconstruction of 25 alleys and their associated alley approaches, adjacent sidewalks, curbs, and gutters. The alley locations are shown in Exhibit A. ANALYSIS: Bid
Schedule No. 1066 was advertised for construction bids on April 7 and 11,
2001. A bid opening was held on
April 24, 2001, and six (6) contractors submitted bids ranging from
$510,025.00 to $880,281.00, as shown in Exhibit
B. KALBAN Inc. of Sun Valley, California submitted the lowest bid, which is 2.0 percent above the engineer�s estimate of $500,000.00. This contractor has performed work similar to the scope of work in this project for the City of Burbank with satisfactory results. Construction of this project is planned to occur between August and November 2001. The work is to be completed within 50 working days (excludes weekends). An environmental review categorized this project as Categorically Exempt under CEQA Section 15301(c).
FISCAL IMPACT: The
total amount for this project is $510,025.00.
Sufficient funding is available in Account No.
370-PW21A-70999-1005-12058. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the proposed resolution approving the contract documents and awarding a construction contract to KALBAN Inc. for the 2000 Citywide Alley Reconstruction Project, Bid Schedule No. 1066.
