SUBJECT:

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF BURBANK AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT A GRANT FROM TARGET FOR THE 24TH ANNUAL NATIONAL NIGHT OUT AND AMEND THE FISCAL YEAR 2007-08 BUDGET BY APPROPRIATING FUNDS

PURPOSE

To request City Council approval of a proposed resolution that authorizes the City Manager to accept a $2,000 grant from Target (T-1362 Burbank) for the 24th Annual National Night Out and amend the Fiscal Year 2007-08 budget by appropriating funds.

BACKGROUND

The purpose of National Night Out (NNO) is to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.  NNO has proven to be an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in the fight for a safer community.  The funds provided from this Target grant will cover the cost of block party promotional items.

FISCAL IMPACT

Accepting the grant funds amends the citys budget by increasing Fund 001s revenue estimate by $2,000 in account 001-PD000-45000-1002.  In addition, this staff report will appropriate $2,000 in funding to 001-PD03B-62300.

RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the City Council approve a resolution of the City of Burbank authorizing the City Manager to accept a grant from Target for the 24th annual National Night Out and amend the Fiscal Year 2007-08 budget by appropriating funds.
