Purpose
To request City Council approval of contract documents and award of a construction contract for Bid Schedule No. 1209, Sidewalk Repair Project.
Background
This is the third year of the City's ten-year sidewalk repair program. This program is designed to repair the sidewalks within two of the City's twenty sections every year. This year's project provides for repair of concrete improvements within the areas identified on Exhibit A. Bid Schedule No. 1209 was advertised on March 29 and April 1, 2006.
Analysis:
A bid opening was held on April 18, 2006, and three (3) contractors submitted bids ranging from $535,230.00 to $608,530.00 (Exhibit B).
KALBAN Inc. of Sun Valley, California submitted the lowest bid of $535,230.00, which is 10.8% below the engineer�s estimate of $600,000.00. This contractor has previously performed work similar to the scope of work in this project for the City of Burbank with satisfactory results.
An environmental review categorized this project as exempt by Categorical Exemption under CEQA Section 15304(h).
Construction of this project is planned to start in July 2006 and be completed by October 2006.
Fiscal Impact:
Sufficient funding for this project is available in Account No. 370-PW21A-70002-0000-15954.
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the proposed resolution approving the contract documents and awarding a construction contract to KALBAN Inc. for Bid Schedule No. 1209, Sidewalk Repair Project.
