SUBJECT: Council and Agency Liaisons to Committees and Coalitions

 

Purpose

 

Staff is requesting that the City Council appoint Council liaisons to certain committees and coalitions. 

 

Background

 

Each year during the City Council�s Goal Setting workshop held in May, the City Council appoints Council members to serve as Council liaisons to over 30 committees and coalitions.  A list of all these committees and coalitions is attached as Exhibit 1 and includes advisory committees, oversight committees, and regional work groups on a variety of topics. 

 

With the resignation of Mrs. Stacey Murphy on August 30, 2005, there were vacancies for Council liaisons for 12 committees.  On September 27, 2005, Council made appointments to fill three of the vacancies as follows:

 

Environmental Oversight Committee

Council Member Ramos

South San Fernando/Robert R. Ovrom Subcommittee

Council Member Golonski

San Fernando Valley Service Sector Governance Council

Council Member Campbell

 

The Council also appointed Mayor Vander Borght and Council Member Ramos to serve as the Council liaisons on the Memorial Stadium and High School Field Renovation Oversight Committee. 

 

The Council�s appointments on September 27th left vacancies for Council liaisons for nine committees.

Staff notes that the Art in Public Places projects at BWP and Chandler Boulevard are complete; however, the Council may wish to retain the Site Specific Selection Committee for Art Projects for involvement in the selection of future art projects. 

 

Fiscal Impact

 

There is no fiscal impact associated with these appointments. 

 

Recommendation

 

Staff recommends that the City Council appoint Council liaisons to the committees specified above.
