Memorandum

DATE: January 10, 2006
TO: Mary J. Alvord, City Manager
FROM: Eric Hansen, Park, Recreation and Community Services Director
SUBJECT: YOUTH BOARD APPOINTMENT

Purpose:

The purpose of this report is to make recommendation to the City Council for the approval of a mid-term appointment to fill a vacancy on the Youth Board.

Background:

As currently structured, the Youth Board is comprised of school representatives and at-large members.  A representative is designated from each high school and middle school in Burbank. The school representatives include both public and parochial schools. The remaining positions are designated as at-large members. All appointments are for two-year terms, with the school representatives and the at-large positions alternating expiration dates.

For the high school and middle school positions, each school recommends the name of their respective student for City Council approval.

Analysis:

At this time there is a high school representative vacancy from Monterey High School due to the resignation of Ana Diaz. Ms. Diaz was appointed to the Youth Board by City Council at its September 27, 2005 meeting for a term of two years. Monterey High School has requested the appointment of a new representative to serve the remainder of the term.

Staff has received an application to fill the vacancy from Monterey High School for City Council review. (Attachment I)

Fiscal Impact:

There is no fiscal impact.

Recommendation:

It is staffs recommendation that the City Council approve the mid-term appointment of one high school representative at Monterey High School to the Youth Board as follows:
