Council and Agency Liaisons to Committees and Coalitions

 

Purpose

 

Staff is requesting that the City Council appoint Council liaisons to certain committees and coalitions.  Staff is also requesting that the City Council appoint two Council members to the Memorial Stadium and High School Field Renovation Oversight Committee.

 

Background

 

Each year during the City Council�s Goal Setting workshop held in May, the City Council appoints Council members to serve as Council liaisons to over 30 committees and coalitions.  A list of all these committees and coalitions is attached as Exhibit 1 and includes advisory committees, oversight committees, and regional work groups on a variety of topics. 

 

With the resignation of Mrs. Stacey Murphy on August 30, 2005, there are vacancies for Council liaisons for 12 committees. 

 

At the last joint School Board/City Council meeting on June 20, 2005, the Council and School Board agreed to begin efforts to renovate Memorial Stadium and the tracks and fields at Burbank High School and Burroughs High School.  The Council and Board agreed to form an oversight committee consisting of two Council members; two School Board members; Dr. Greg Bowman, Superintendent; Mary Alvord, City Manager; and the two principals of Burbank and Burroughs High Schools. 

 

Analysis

 

Staff is requesting that the City Council appoint liaisons to the following committees and coalitions that have liaison vacancies created by Mrs. Murphy�s resignation:

According to CDD staff, the representative on the San Fernando Valley Service Sector Governance Council does not have to be a Council member.  The representative may be an elected official and/or a private citizen who resides within the boundaries of the service sector, which includes the City of Burbank.    

 

Staff is also requesting that the Council appoint two Council members to the Memorial Stadium and High School Field Renovation Oversight Committee.

 

Fiscal Impact

 

There is no fiscal impact associated with these appointments. 

 

Recommendation

 

Staff recommends that the City Council appoint Council liaisons to the committees specified above.
