Memorandum

DATE: January 25, 2005
TO: Mary J. Alvord, City Manager
FROM: Eric Hansen, Park, Recreation and Community Services Director
SUBJECT: YOUTH BOARD APPOINTMENT

Purpose:

The purpose of this report is to make recommendation to the City Council for the approval of a mid-term appointment to fill a vacancy on the Youth Board.

Background:

As currently structured, the Youth Board is comprised of seventeen members.  A representative is designated for each high school and middle school in Burbank. The school representatives include both public and parochial schools. The remaining six positions are designated as at-large members. All appointments are for two-year terms, with the school representatives and the at-large positions alternating expiration dates.

For the high school and middle school positions, each school recommends the name of their respective student for City Council approval.

Analysis:

At this time there is a middle school representative vacancy from St. Finbar School due to the resignation of Cassandra Pozos. Ms. Pozos was appointed to the Youth Board by City Council at its September 30, 2003 meeting for a term of two years. St. Finbar School has requested the appointment of a new representative to serve the remainder of the two year term which will expire in June of 2005.

St. Finbar School was contacted and requested to provide the name of their representative replacement. St. Finbar responded and staff has received an application for the vacancy at St. Finbar School for City Council review. (Attachment I)

Fiscal Impact:
