                                                 MEMORANDUM

DATE: January 11, 2005
TO: Mary J. Alvord, City Manager
FROM: Thomas Hoefel, Chief of Police
SUBJECT:

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURBANK AMENDING THE FISCAL YEAR 2004-2005 BUDGET FOR THE PURPOSE OF RECEIVING AND APPROPRIATING BULLETPROOF VEST GRANT PROGRAM FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $6,689.01 FROM THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE

Purpose:

To request City Council approval of a proposed resolution that authorizes the City Manager to accept a $6,689.01 grant from the United States Department of Justice (DOJ), Bureau of Justice Assistance, for the Police Department Bulletproof Vest Program.

Background/Analysis:

The City of Burbank has participated in this program since 1999 and has received approximately $21,750 to help offset the cost of safety vests.  On January 9, 2004, the Bureau of Justice Assistance requested that agencies desiring to receive bulletproof vest funding, submit a grant proposal.  An application was filed and on May 14, 2004, the Burbank Police Department was notified that the application h ad been approved.

Fiscal Impact:

The revenue anticipated from the grant will help to defray a portion of the general fund cost for safety equipment.  Accepting the grant funds amends the Citys budget by increasing Fund 121s revenue estimate by $6,689.01, account 121-ND000-48010-1083 (Bulletproof Vests).  In addition, it appropriates the grant funding to Oracle Project Number 001-PD03A-70011-0000-15248.

Recommendation:

Staff recommends City Council adoption of a proposed resolution entitled:

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURBANK AMENDING THE FISCAL YEAR 2004-2005 BUDGET FOR THE PURPOSE OF RECEIVING AND APPROPRIATING BULLETPROOF VEST GRANT PROGRAM FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $6,689.01 FROM THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE.
