PURPOSE:
To request City Council acceptance of monies donated to the Burbank Police Department and to appropriate the monies accordingly.
BACKGROUND & ANALYSIS:
On September 28, 2004, the Burbank Police Department received a generous $35,000 donation to the Animal Shelter from the estate of Peggy Ann Robinson. Ms. Robinson was a long time Burbank resident who was actively involved in animal care issues. She had visited the Shelter many times and was supportive of our efforts to provide care and find homes for Burbanks unwanted animal population. Ms. Robinson passed away in April and left a large portion of her estate to various animal causes to be selected by her trustees, Karen Ritchie and Mark Robbins. Among those selected was the Burbank Animal Shelter. She stipulated that the money be used for animal health related issues.
The Burbank Animal Shelter has greatly enhanced the health of its cats through the recent facilities upgrade. The health of the dogs and cats could be greatly improved through a health screening that includes vaccinations for all animals entering the Shelter. Staff is looking into developing a medical program that would enable the Shelter to provide vaccinations for all animals housed there. The Shelter will utilize this donation to purchase medical supplies and vaccinations for Shelter animals.
FISCAL IMPACT:
To utilize monies generated by this donation, the Police Department is requesting that the budget be amended to appropriate $35,000 from Account 001-ND000-45000-1019 to Account 001-PD04A-62300.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council adopt a resolution accepting and amending the FY 2004-2005 budget by appropriating the above donation in the amount of $35,000.
