PURPOSE
Staff is requesting City Council approval of a resolution authorizing the appropriation of $15,000 to be used as a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspect(s) in the Sharon Santos murder investigation
BACKGROUND / ANALYSIS
Since the disappearance of Ms. Sharon Santos on August 17, 2004 and the subsequent discovery of her body on September 2, 2004, the Burbank Police Department has worked tirelessly to apprehend those responsible for her murder.
Police Chief Tom Hoefel and the investigators on the case believe that a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspects(s) involved in the case would be a useful tool. Warner Bros. has offered $25,000, and the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has offered $10,000. Staff is recommending that the City Council approve an appropriation of $15,000 to bring the total reward to $50,000.
FISCAL IMPACT
The $15,000 for the reward will be appropriated from account number 001.ND000.30001.1015 to account number 001.ND000.62065.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council approve the proposed resolution appropriating $15,000 to be used as a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspect(s) in the Sharon Santos murder investigation.
