SUBJECT: RESOLUTION APPROVING CONTRACT DOCUMENTS AND AWARDING A CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT FOR BID SCHEDULE NO. 1135, 2003 SIDEWALK REPAIR PROJECT


PURPOSE

 

To request City Council approval of contract documents and award of a construction contract for Bid Schedule No. 1135, 2003 Sidewalk Repair Project.

 

BACKGROUND

 

This Project provides for repair of concrete improvements within the areas identified on Exhibit A.  The project was advertised on January 10 and January 14, 2004.

 

ANALYSIS

 

On February 17, 2004, 13 contractors submitted bids ranging from $457,493.83 to $858,302.50, as shown on Exhibit B.  KALBAN Inc. of Sun Valley, California, submitted the lowest bid, 24.4 percent below the engineer�s estimate of $605,000.00.  This contractor has previously performed work similar to the scope of work in this project for the City of Burbank with satisfactory results. 

 

Construction of this project is planned to occur between May and July 2004. An environmental review categorized this project as exempt by Categorical Exemption under CEQA Section 15301(c).

 

FISCAL IMPACT

 

Sufficient funding for this project is available in Account No. 370-PW21A-70002-0000-13748.  The funding for this project came out of Public Work�s annual General Fund 370 appropriation for street/alley/concrete improvements. 

 

RECOMMENDATION

 

Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the proposed resolution approving the contract documents and awarding a construction contract to KALBAN Inc., for Bid Schedule No. 1135, 2003 Sidewalk Repair Project.
