PURPOSE

The purpose of this report is to revise and re-title the classification of Warehouse Supervisor/BWP CTC No. 0979 to Warehouse Manager/BWP CTC No. 0979, as shown in the attachment.

BACKGROUND

The utility industry is constantly changing and in order to remain competitive, the department needs to continue to keep pace with these changes.  As such, in an effort to be consistent with the market, the department has recognized the need to revise the specification and change the title for this position to portray its management rather than supervisory functions.

ANALYSIS & CONCLUSION

This position actually manages the warehouse operations within the department and provides direct communication to the Assistant General Manager � Finance and Administration.  The revision of the specification and the re-titling of the classification of Warehouse Supervisor/BWP to Warehouse Manager/BWP reflects the management status of this position and addresses market consistency.  This change will clearly address the current and on-going needs of the department.  The broader range of duties and responsibilities now required by this position are reflected in the changes in the minimum requirements, i.e. a degree in addition to experience is preferable.  The incumbent in this position possesses all of the necessary requirements and will not be affected by these changes.

This position will continue to be a Civil Service position and subject to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).  It will be included in the City�s Conflict of Interest Code.

The Civil Service Board approved this title change at their regular meeting on January 7, 2004 and the revision of the specification at their regular meeting on February 4, 2004.

FISCAL IMPACT

There is no fiscal impact from this title change or specification revision as the position will be paid the same salary as was previously paid to the Warehouse Supervisor/BWP.

RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the classification of Warehouse Supervisor/BWP, CTC No. 0979 be revised and re-titled to Warehouse Manager/BWP CTC No. 0979.
