PURPOSE: To request City Council approval of a proposed resolution that authorizes the City Manger to accept $1,000 from the Target Store, Empire Center Branch, donated funds for the Burbank Fire Department, and amend the Fiscal Year 2003-2004 budget by appropriating funds.
BACKGROUND: The Target Store, Empire Center, has made a donation of $1,000.00 to the Burbank Fire Department. Mr. Bob Davis, the Store Manager, stated that the intention of the donation is to facilitate a gift to be used at the fire departments discretion for ongoing educational programs directed toward children in Burbank.
DISCUSSION: A check for $1,000 will be presented to the fire department in the Council Chambers. Fire Marshal, Dave Starr has recommended that the donation fund our new Lil Squirt character for use as an ambassador to children and adults in the City of Burbank and to enhance Fire and Life Safety Education programs and events.
FISCAL IMPACT: The City is not required to provide any matching funds. This donation provides for a one-time funding source for the benefit of the Fire Department and will enhance the departments ability to fund Lil Squirts activities.
RECOMMENDATION: Burbank Fire Department requests that the City Council:
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURBANK AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A $1,000 DONATION FROM THE TARGET STORE, EMPIRE CENTER, TO THE BURBANK FIRE DEPARTMENT AND AMEND THE FISCAL YEAR 2003-2004 BUDGET BY APPROPRIATING SAID FUNDS.
