Relations and
Teens in Action |
Mr. Hansen, Interim
Director of the Park, Recreation and Community Services Department,
described the Teens In Action Police/Youth Team formed in 2002 with a
primary goal of building better relationships between
Burbank
youth and Police Officers through activities and dialogue. He reported
that the Police Officers and youth recently held a basketball game
followed by a bar-b-que, and recognized the hard work and dedication
demonstrated by the youth. He also commended Officer Jones, Liaison for
the Police Department, for her efforts. Linda Maxwell and Jose Quintanar,
representing We Care For Youth, assisted the Mayor in presenting
Certificates of Recognition to the following participants: Arsen
Andreasyan; Brittney Barletta; Ramon Boghozian; Cory Celis; Dorian Celis;
Salina Coria; Gabriel Gallegos; Giannona Giombini; Jeremy Intal; Erik
Harrin; Odessa Martin; Michael Meksian; Peter Meksian; Vahe Nazaryan;
Deysy Ordonez; Anesa Panussian; David Pettrossoants; Alex Safarian; and,
April Soto. Linda Maxwell expressed appreciation to the Council and staff
for supporting youth programs especially during the current financial
constraints.

Fire Fighter of
the Year |
Fire Chief Davis
described the criteria for the selection of the Fire Fighter of the Year
and introduced the 2003 award recipient, Captain Craig Canfield, a 30-year
veteran of the Fire Department. Mayor Murphy presented Captain Canfield
with a plaque commemorating his selection as the 2003 Burbank Fire
Department Fire Fighter of the Year, as well as a Certificate of
Recognition. Next, Chief Davis introduced the 2004 Fire Fighter of the
Year, Eric Clements. Mayor Murphy presented a plaque and Certificate of
Recognition to Fire Fighter Clements.

Mr. Vander Borght
commented on his service as a juror of architectural drawings by
Burbank
and John Burroughs High School students. He commended City staff for
developing a program which engages youth at the high school level by
participating in this competition.
Mrs. Ramos reported
on the Domestic Violence Task Force meeting she attended.

Mayor Murphy requested that an additional item related to the signing of a
condolence letter to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) in sympathy
of a fallen police officer be placed on the agenda stating that �there is
a need to take immediate action and that need for action came to the
attention of the City subsequent to the agenda being posted.�

Signing of
Condolence Letter
to LAPD |
Mayor Murphy
requested that a letter signed by all Council Members be sent to the Los
Angeles Police Department (LAPD) expressing the City�s condolences and
support in the passing of Officer Ricardo Lizarraga who was shot and
killed in the line of duty. She noted that the LAPD was very supportive in
the City�s investigation following the loss of Police Officer Matthew
Pavelka.
It was the consensus
of the Council to send the condolence letter to the LAPD and staff was
directed to draft the letter for the Council Members� signatures.
