PURPOSE:

To request City Council acceptance of a police canine donated to the Burbank Police Department.

BACKGROUND & ANALYSIS:

On November 5, 2002, the Police Department received a donation from NBC Studios and the Burbank Women�s Club of a new police canine, Caila.  This dog was donated to replace Ugli, who died due to a stomach ailment.

Caila is a 3 year old female black Belgian Malinois.  She came to us from the Netherlands in January, 2003.  She is fully trained for both patrol and narcotics work.  She and her partner, Officer Theresa Geier, will be in the field going about their duty,  protecting the citizens of Burbank.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no fiscal impact as a result of accepting this canine.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff is recommending that the City Council express its appreciation to NBC Studios and the Burbank Women�s Club and adopt a resolution accepting the donation of Caila to the Burbank Police Department.
