To revise and retitle the specifications and classifications of Field and Evidence Technician CTC No. 0336 and Field and Evidence Technician Supervisor CTC No. 0337 to Forensic Specialist CTC No. 0366 and Forensic Specialist Supervisor CTC No. 0367, as shown in the attachments.

1. These revisions reflect the need of the department as it recruits in a highly specialized field.
2. The revisions clarify the duties and physical requirements of the position and allow for specific experience to substitute for the education requirement.
3. The Burbank City Employees' Association will represent these classifications and the BCEA has been advised of these revisions. This specification has been formatted to conform to the Americans with Disabilities Act.
4. The Police Chief concurs with these recommendations.
5. These revisions were approved by the Civil Service Board at their January 8, 2003 meeting.

These revisions provide the applicants with a clearer understanding of the position and allows them to be better prepared for the specialized duties and requirements of these classifications. They also address the current needs of the department as it recruits in a highly specialized market.

There is no salary change and, therefore, no fiscal impact for FY 2002/03.

Staff recommends that the specifications for the classifications of Field And Evidence Technician CTC No. 0336 and Field And Evidence Technician Supervisor CTC No. 0337 be revised and retitled to Forensic Specialist CTC No. 0366 and Forensic Specialist Supervisor CTC No. 0367, as shown in the attachments.
